Avani Gilbert

Avani started exploring yoga as a teenager to counter participation in high school competitive sports; or rather, the yang practices of her life. From there she began a lifelong love, journey and endless study along the yogic path. She has participated in yoga teacher trainings throughout the United States and Costa Rica while accumulating over 2500 hours of teaching experience at her yoga studio in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. OM has recently expanded under her direction as “OM Retreat and Training Center at Cashew Hill”; the first of it’s kind in Puerto Viejo. Avani is the lead trainer at the Caribe Yoga Academy as well as a guest teacher for several programs at the Pavones Yoga Center. She is also a practicing Reiki Master Teacher, small business owner, Clarity Breathwork Practitioner, body and lightworker and an enthusiastic momma. She emphasizes the importance of Karmic consciousness, CommUNITY, Kula and Seva in her teachings and her practice. Her flows are creative yet alignment based and she enjoys sharing breathwork, vinyasa, yin and restorative practices as well as workshops and trainings. Joe Barnett

Joe Barnett, ERYT-500, based loosely in both Cincinnati, OH and Tucson, AZ, has been teaching for 14 years. He travels nationally and internationally year round offering presentations and trainings on Yin and Yang (Vinyasa) forms of Yoga.

He provides a deep study (both experiential and anatomical) of the crude physical Skeleton and Fascia, as well as the more subtle Meridians and Chakras. Joe is a senior student and primary teaching assistant of Paul Grilley, a true Yoga Scientist and founder of Yin Yoga. After several years of apprenticing under Paul, Joe began roaming the globe to spread the word of his teacher’s work: 1) Yin Yoga, 2) a Functional Analysis of the Skeleton, and 3) Chakra Meditation. Naturally he began training yoga teachers across the world how to begin using these practical models to help others find a quiet practice of surrender.

“Joe Barnett has been our friend and assistant for many years. He has two qualities that make him an excellent presenter: he knows the anatomical principles and he relates to people in a sympathetic manner. His presentations are unhurried, hands on demonstrations, this is the easiest way to absorb these ideas.” ~ Paul and Suzee Grilley

However, his play time is usually spent practicing, teaching and drawing others into AcroYoga which he has been playing since 2006 when he met Jason Magness, Co-Founder of YogaSlackers, with whom he continues to train/play whenever he can. In 2010, Joe traveled to Montreal to receive both levels of certification through the original AcroYogis Eugene Poku and Jessie Goldberg. See more photos and other events by this presenter

Ryan Hill

Ryan says Yoga is a life-long healing practice and a state of mind. By immersing ourselves in the sensations of the body we can distill our experience to the present, rising above the stuckness in our bodies and flickering in our heads.

It’s not about flexibility. You’ll learn to develop attention, disconnect from doubt, and better understand your natural state of being. You'll learn to participate with each posture, surrendering to what’s available to your body. This discipline allow me to see the ways of least resistance and walk my path more decisively.

I simply adore the yoga practice, in the geekiest way. After extensive study at South Boston Yoga, I participated in their 500-hour teacher training in 2009. I heard the calling profoundly and took the leap, leaving my career in architecture to wait tables and practice. Today, yoga has moved from flirtation to love affair. I've been teaching and giving bodywork full-time for 6 years! The way I move changes so much year to year and the influence of Richard Freeman and my recent 500 hour with Barbara Benagh have settled me down and held me up. I spend my time addressing the 'special needs,' the experience, the human, rather than the show and prefer not to play music. The ability to focus on what's going on inside is just too good!

Nothing makes me more enthusiastic than sharing my experience. I believe that no one style of yoga holds the key to understanding ourselves. My deepest gratitude goes out to the teachers who have influenced me most, opening the doors of my heart: David & Todd of South Boston Yoga, Cat Kabira, Richard Freeman and Barbara Benagh.
