The program is an all-inclusive, comprehensive training with the purpose to make you a knowledgeable teacher for beginner students. The program focuses on the traditional primary series in Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. You will also be introduced to the modified primary series to suit the needs of the beginner students, the mixed level for groups with different skill levels and the creative intermediate series, Rocket, created by Larry Schultz.
Yoga Alliance US and UK
It’s Yoga Nica's Teacher Training program is registered with Yoga Alliance US and Yoga Alliance UK. With this training you have the possibilities to obtain a certificate of completion for 200 hours of training and you are qualifyed to join Yoga Alliance US or UK as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level. Yoga Alliance US and UK are recognized credentialing organizations in the Yoga business. As a registered Yoga Teacher you have the opportunity to teach yoga internationally.
It's Yoga Nicaragua Teacher Training Program
Deepen your practice and take the steps towards a yogic lifestyle. It's Yoga Nicaragua strictly follows the recommended standards and guidelines of Yoga Alliance. They are approved to train yoga teachers at level YTT 200. After examination and for those who graduate, with the Yoga Alliance-approved system, you will become a confident and effective Ashtanga yoga instructor and you can also attain an international certification.
It's Yoga Nicaragua has been doing Ashtanga yoga teacher training programs for over 15 years and graduated more than 3000 yoga teachers. This Ashtanga teacher training supports students in deepening their understanding and relationship to the practice by studying the basic ingredients: breath, bandhas, and dristi. With revolutionary methods to make the practice accessible and appropriate, their approach is modern, therapeutic, challenging, supportive, and steeped in tradition.
The purpose of this YTT program is to provide a supportive environment in which students begin to connect with their inner teacher, internal wisdom, and authentic voice. Through pranayama, asana practice, mind-body, journalism, group conversation, reading, and guided meditation, students will practice the essential process of conscious listening to your own higher self. The YTT is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation of knowledge and information with which you can confidently and effectively facilitate an Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga class for beginners.
It's Yoga Nicaragua will share their expertise about marketing, pricing, teaching group or private classes, and setting up your own yoga school. They intend to support each student as they develop, deepen, appreciate, and expand their understanding of their true authentic self. Certification requirements details
- Teach a class - you will be assigned to teach a one-on-one beginner class at the school / lodge.
- Assist classes - you will be assigned to assist classes being taught by another instructors. You will be required to give physical adjustments and answer questions at the beginning and end of class.
- Observe classes - you are required to attend classes taught by other teachers and observe their teaching style.
- Complete written assignments.
- Personal essay - your own experience of yoga.
- Keep a journal / practice log.
- Own Statement of teaching philosophy - compose a short statement of the principles, which you intend to uphold as you teach the Ashtanga yoga system.
- Tests - Three short quizzes, which include memorization of all of the Sanskrit names for the asanas and a final written essay test.
Yoga Alliance certification program: this compilation of materials shares the ancient practice of Ashtanga in terms that every yoga enthusiast can learn from, both the basic beginner to the most advanced practitioner.

Things to do in Ostional
Depending on the interest in the group, you will have a chance to go hiking in the forest, or go on boat trips to other beaches or trips to San Juan del Sur.
When you enroll in the program, you will also participate in a selfless service project during your stay. You will be bringing learning material to the local school as well as helping out with different tasks depending on the need. You will also assist Paso Pacifico in their work of saving the sea turtles.
Your package includes shared room with 2 - 4 students in each room. There are bathrooms with shower in each room. The lodges are simple but very nice, and it is located on the beach in Ostional with walking distance from the yoga rancho.
You will practice yoga on a yoga deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The yoga rancho is located on the south end of the beach. There, you will find all facilities along with hammocks and chairs to relax and chill.
While spending your time in the training, you will also learn about food. It's Yoga Nicaragua believes in a holistic approach in your yogic lifestyle where your food plays an important part. In Nicaragua, you can find a wide variety of exotic fruits you might never have seen before such as herbs, some with medicinal qualities, and vegetables typical for tropical countries. During your stay, you will enjoy homemade, locally grown organic fresh food. Most people who visit them are vegetarians but they do have an abundance of fresh fish for those who enjoy a grilled fish for dinner.

Breakfast: Nicaraguan Gallo Pinto (rice and beans) with a yogic touch, eggs, tortillas, oatmeal, and lots of fresh fruits.

Edwin is the creator of Ashtanga Yoga Nicaragua pay-it-forward SEVA projects in Ostional Nicaragua where saving sea turtles and planting trees are of high priority. Born in Nicaragua Edwin has a strong passion for supporting the rural community in his home country where he lives and work.
Edwin is a senior Ashtanga yoga teacher, with more than 10 years of full time teaching experience. He especially likes to teach and practice the Rocket, a modern style of Ashtanga created by Larry Schultz.
Apart from being a committed yogi Edwin is also interested in food and cooking. He is a trained chef and had a several years long career in Stockholm before he changed his life style towards the yogic path. Now he loves to invent new delicious and nutritious dishes and salsas to the delight his yoga students. A cook book is on it's way already.
His yoga and life philosophy springs from the ancient teachers of Ashtanga as well as from his teacher Larry Schults from whom he has inherited the compassion, discipline and humor as important ingredients to his teachings. Catarina Lacayo is a registered SYT teacher with Yoga Alliance UK. This accreditation demonstrates excellent standards as set by Yoga Alliance UK. Together with her husband Edwin she is the creator of Ashtanga Yoga Nicaragua, a fusion of yoga teacher trainings and Seva projects with the mission to help conserve and restore the natural eco system in the region of El Ostional. “Choosing a conscious yogic lifestyle, aligning your mind, body and heart lifts your spirit high and enables you to access your full potential as an awaken human being. Bringing your yoga passion off the mat will help you serve globally .” Catarina´s life mission is to share the love of the yoga practice, inspire and support people who are ready to grow and transform. She loves to blend the ancient teaching and practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Holistic Health to support and encourage people in this process. She is a senior yoga teacher, a student of Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga and a Dr of Naprapathy (spinal specialist) with 5 years academical studies and 10 years clinical experience. She is also a certified Holistic Health Coach from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York. Catarina teaches in Swedish, English and Spanish.
