Located in the land of Yogis
Deeply devotional people, sacred rivers, mountains and elaborate temples make India one of the great spiritual destinations for eastern and western seekers alike. It is the birthplace of Yoga as well as Hinduism, Buddhism, Tantra and Jainism. Is there any better place on Earth to pursue your Yoga education?
Renowned as the World Capital of Yoga, Rishikesh is one of the most holy cities in India. It was made popular in the West by the Beatles, who went there to study meditation with their Guru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The holy city was also described by Paramahansa Yogananda in his modern spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi.
Near the origin of the Ganges River, Rishikesh is a vital pilgrimage spot for yogis and Hindus alike. Filled with spiritual seekers from all over India, there are hundreds of schools offering classes in Yoga, devotional music, Sanskrit and Ayurveda. In the evening, devotees pour down to the riverside for an ancient ceremony called Aarti. Pilgrims float candles and flowers down the river as Sanskrit prayers are offered and the sun sets behind the majestic foothills of the Himalaya mountain range.

Still unsure that you could be a Yoga teacher?
It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the “Yoga body” that is so popular on Instagram. Anybody who feels inspired to become a Yoga teacher can be one. You just need to take your first step on the path. If you love Yoga, if you feel that your Yoga practice has changed your life and you now want to share that same benefit with others, then you also can become a Yoga teacher. All you need is the inspiration to guide you to first learn and practice – and then share what you have learned with others.
It does not matter that you feel inadequate. You do not need to be perfect in order to start teaching Yoga. You only need the desire and the will to apply yourself to learning the techniques and putting them into practice. What you learn, you can teach. Actually teaching is one of the most effective methods of solidifying your knowledge.
Let our Master teachers be your guide
In Yoga your Guru is the key to your success. All of our Master teachers are sincerely walking the path of Yoga and applying this ancient system of liberation to their lives. They can demystify the practice and philosophy of Yoga for you.
Our head teacher, Brajesh Yogiji, has taught Yoga in Rishikesh and around the world for the past 10 years. He graduated from the prestigious Kavailydham Yoga University in Lovanla, India and has continued to learn from the sages and Masters of Rishikesh throughout his career.
He is a direct disciple of Shri O.P. Tiwariji, one of the world’s top recognized masters of the practice of Pranayama. Brajesh Yogiji has learned directly from his guru and mentor, and is honored to pass along these teachings to his teacher training students.
Our other teachers such as Acharya Vimal Sharma, Kushal, and Rajeev are all have immense personal experience and wisdom in the field of Yoga, which they are thrilled to share with their students.
What’s an Avatar anyway?
The term Avatar denotes the intentional descent of The Supreme Being into the various spheres and levels of the manifest Universe in order to both bless and guide the beings within them. This is widely understood to mean that God incarnates on Earth periodically in order to foster good and suppress evil.
The existence of the Avatar opens the door in the human heart to a personal devotional relationship with The Supreme Divinity. The devotee pours out his or her love for the Divine and the Avatar is the sign that the Divinity loves you back.
Certain practices, especially playing devotional music and chanting (as in Kirtan), are commonly used open the heart to the two-way blissful love connection with the Avatar.
We have named our school Avatar Yoga because we approach all Yoga practices with this devotional attitude. We see all practice as an opportunity to connect with that inner bliss in a direct and personal way. When you participate in our retreats, it is our intention that you recognize and connect with that energy yourself.
