Through the ages, we have called upon the One for Whom we yearn in countless ways, through myriad names. The term "The Beloved" embraces all of these names and forms of the Divine, affirming their Unity.
Beloved is also a 4 day camping, art, and music festival on the Oregon Coast. We intend to present sacred music to help eradicate the illusion of separation from each other, from the earth and from The Beloved.
We seek to inflame ourselves with the emotional rapture of the body-mind that allows us to intensify our love for the spirit within the mundane world, within its inhabitants and within each moment.
Hearing this call for the creation of sacred music festivals, we aspire to dissolve the boundaries that isolate us by presenting a diverse array of sacred music. Sacred music achieves this aim by invoking a state of openness to the Beauty in other beings, other cultures, other life-forms and life-systems.
What is Sacred Music?
We recognize that the phrase "sacred music" is redundant and we acknowledge the irony of asserting a false divide between sacred and profane while seeking the mystic's view. We feel that the calling to come to the Divine should be a unifying force in humanity, not a source of division and alienation.
"Sacredness" is a quality of attention. The careful details of a tea ceremony serve to focus the full awareness upon the steeping and partaking of the leaves. This elevates a seemingly mundane act into a space of rapturous appreciation, into sacredness. This loving mindfulness is the key to the realm of the sacred within the shared world of the mundane.
Devotion to a source of inspiration brings out a special quality in art or music that is produced under its influence. This quality infuses those who join in with the overflowing hearts of both musicians and dancers. In this way, each individual has can truly experience the love that is the music's true source.
One of our primary aims for Beloved is to pioneer new ways to honor and respect our planet in crisis while we celebrate our ever-present connection with her. That said, we must be honest that camping festivals cannot truly be sustainable. "Sustainable Festival" is an oxymoron.
We do not take lightly that we are asking for hundreds of people and tons of equipment to be driven for at least several hours. We are also setting up a temporary power grid and consuming dozens of megawatts of power, generating nearly a ton of waste and using almost 10,000 gallons of water.
Our goal is that Beloved not only reduce it's negative ecological impact, but aim for the event to have a net positive effect on the battered Oregon Coastal Range ecosystem and on our planet's ability to survive the many and constant threats to her lfe. We are making special efforts to minimize our impact and to use these efforts as an educational platform for all participants.
In this time of accelerated evolution, the spirit of devotion is most needed to guide the hearts of humanity, to honor the many and diverse expressions of this spirit. One of the primary aims of this festival is to cultivate devotion so that we may collectively cut through the illusion of separation, achieve the ecstatic states at the core of every mystical tradition and work towards the transformation of personal scarcity into spiritual abundance.
Cutting through illusion
Deep within you and me is a longing for connection with That which is within us yet beyond us. Each individual is centered upon a Mystery that is veiled by illusory complexes—be they social, political, or psychological. When body, mind and soul come together in single-pointed devotion to the Spirit Within, a flame is kindled that burns away these veils.
When the flame of devotion burns through the illusion of separation, the light of the true nature of the heart shines forth and the world is revealed to be the body of this same divine Spirit.
Achieving ecstatic states
Humanity, when lost in the delirium of fear, greed and ignorance, forgets the inherent divine nature of every living being...of the world itself. Sometimes we awaken from this delusion through the pain of the consequences of our unmindful actions. There is always, however, the graceful option of Devotion.
Through Devotion we may choose to joyfully ignite ourselves with the flame of Spirit and burn away all that obscures our appreciation of the the living beauty within ourselves, each other, and at the core of all sacred traditions.
Cultivating lasting abundance
We recognize a true power in the excesses and extremes that so many have gone pursued attemting to fulfill their deeper longing. The appetites of the body-mind cannot, in and of themselves, reach this completion.
It is when the whole being is engaged in the adoration and celebration of the Divine Family, of which it is a part, that this long-sought communion is attained. The senses and sentiments of the body, mind and soul each may play a part in this, but it is the unifying motive of Devotion that transforms personal scarcity into spiritual abundance.
