On an Equine-guided Mindfulness Meditation Retreat you will meditate with horses, interact with horses, learn from horses, write about horses and go for long walks with horses…while you learn how to communicate better, build better relationships, feel better about yourself and discover how to handle stress effectively.
Deep in the heart of the lush vineyards in the sun-blessed south of France, you will find a small herd of horses grazing peacefully in a secluded valley, far from the hustle and bustle and endless demands and challenges of modern life. You will find them in a flower-filled meadow, perfumed by wild mint, with the sound of the wind whispering in the leaves of the ancient oaks and of ice-cold water bubbling up from the 5 springs that feed the lake. These springs are reputed to have healing properties, and people have been coming here for centuries to rest, review their lives and restore their fortunes.
You can now do the same, with the additional benefit of learning from experienced and patient equine guides through Equine -facilitated Meditation, Equine-assisted Experiential Learning, Equine-inspired Therapeutic Writing and Equine-guided Walking Meditation. Combat stress with Mindfulness Meditation taught by a medical doctor with many years of experience treating stress-related illness and her gentle herd of horses
Dr Margaretha Montagu
During my first mid-life crisis ( I have had several since) I became disillusioned with the current medical approach. After working for 20 years as a medical doctor in a variety of specialities including psychiatry, psychotherapy and general practice I came to the conclusion that many diseases have their roots in my patients' inability to handle stress effectively. Instead of treating stress-related illnesses, I decided to look at practical ways that my patients can use to prevent stress from ruining their health. I studied a number of alternative therapies including hypnosis, meditation and NLP, all very useful and instructive but not as fulfilling as I had hoped. I had loved horses since I was a little girl, but once I started medicine, there was no more time (or money!) to devote to this gentle obsession. By 2006, I was wondered if there was a way of combining the last 20 years' training and experience with my love for horses, when I came across Equine-assisted Psychotherapy and Experiential Learning. I was hooked right from the start : the effectiveness of the treatment, the short duration and the lasting results quickly convinced me that this is the way forward. All that I lacked was the training, the horses and a home for the latter ! During the next two years I re-trained as an equine-assisted experiential learning facilitator and bought my first horse, a magnificent Friesian mare called Beitske van't Sluijt (Belle to her friends). Several others have since joined the herd, some were born into it, some were rescued and some were very welcome gifts. After a long search, the perfect home for us all, Les Sources Sacrées (the Sacred Springs), presented itself. Here I now feel very privileged to live with my extremely supportive husband, our small herd of horses, 3 cats and one enormous dog. The very first time we came to see the property, this ancient place of healing started working its magic on us...the 2 acre lake, the 22 acres of meadows and woods, the centuries old oak trees, the 17th century pilgrims' chapel, the secluded but not isolated position surrounded by immaculately manicured vineyards (wine being the husband's passion)...we promptly decided we that had to buy it. Not very long after we realised that we could not keep this oasis to ourselves, that somewhere this special had to be shared. Hosting retreats that combines my Equine-assisted Meditation and Experiential Learning training with the husbands passion for good food and wine was the obvious next step. So it is with great enthusiasm that we invite you to join us all here at Les Sources Sacrées for a 3, 5 or 7 day retreat : everything is explained in detail on our hopefully most entertaining website and blog.See more photos and other events by this presenter
