HOW TO GET THERE
Fly to Guatemala City Airport (GUA). We will need to fly in one day before and after the retreat and stay the nights in Guatemala City. So book your flights for Friday Jan 29th - Sunday Feb 7th.
We Recommend Hotel Barcelo because its complimentary shuttle from the airport, luxury rooms, and great buffet breakfast. Rooms are priced at $110.00+ but we can pair people up for sharing.
We will meet at 9 am on Saturday January 30th for a group shuttle departure to the lake. The drive to Panajachel is about 3 hours (about 1 hour into the ride the roads get curvy and mountainous). If you have issues with carsickness, be sure to bring a remedy that will help you.
We will stop for lunch in Antigual. Once in Panajachel, we will take a 15 minute boat ride to Santa Cruz.
Yes, this is adventurous travel but its worth it once you get there, I promise!
Lake Atitlan is a beautiful volcanic lake in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. It is ringed by small towns, many of which are favorites among travelers. The region encompasses the lake and the towns around them. Panajachel is best known, and a good entry point, but more off the beaten track are San Pedro La Laguna or village of San Marcos. Due to the region's popularity, other towns along the lake, such as Santa Cruz la Laguna and San Juan, are now starting to see growing tourism.
The lake is a magical place where the energy is apparent, bringing each person back to themself. The location of Santa Cruz offer some of the best most dramatic vistas on the lake. Each village has its own character. Villa Sumaya is tucked away in the bay of Paxanax on a large lake front property surrounding by lush vegetation. Everywhere you look there is beauty.
Lake Atitlan has something for everyone: activities, tours, Spanish lessons, cultural authenticity, a place to rest and reflect, and connect with like minded folks.
