Tibetan Monastery, PharpingFor Tibetan Buddhists, the hills of Pharping where we immerse for our retreat is considered as sacred as Bodhgaya in India, as it is where is where the second buddha Guru Padmasambhava (“Guru Rinpoche”) attained the state of enlightenment, before going on to establish Buddhism in Tibet.
We will stay in the modern and comfortable guest house at the monastery, enjoying the calm of the surroundings and wonderful, plentiful, healthy food. The monastery which is our home during the retreat makes important contributions to the preservation and sharing of the Buddhist teachings, and our stay there helps to fund education for the many young monks from remote areas of Nepal. The lovely guest accommodation has spacious and bright rooms, comfortable beds for deep and refreshing sleeps, all with attached bathrooms, and built in Tibetan style. The stunning yoga hall overlooks the rice paddies of the Kathmandu Valley, ringed by the Himalayas, which the sun rises over during morning practice. It is the perfect place to relax, restore and revive. See more events in this venue
Join us for a beautiful week of yoga practice, lifestyle, philosophy and calm, to explore and grow yourself, and to invite happiness to flow into your life.
The sunrise yoga practice each morning, practiced in the Sivananda style in the temple overlooking the Kathmandu valley, is complemented with inspiring yoga philosophy teachings and lifestyle. This aims to ground the postures into the wider holistic Yoga tradition, helping you to tune in to ways of thinking, living and being that bring you closer to a deep harmony with yourself.
The retreat will explore the four main paths of yoga – Raja, Karma, Bhakti and Jnana – to gain a deeper insight into the true meaning of Yoga as a whole, as a lifestyle and as the essence to each level of our existence on and off the mat. Throughout the time together, we aim to gain a greater understanding of ourselves, and our Self, through:
- time going within during asana classes, pranayama and different levels of guided meditations
- philosophical enquiries such as “who am I, what is my mind, and what really matters to me”
- living to yogic ethical codes, lifestyle and nutrition
- teaching from the highest teacher of the monastery
- the practice or introduction to the practice of devotion and mindfulness
- hiking among the beautiful natural surroundings and the powerful energy of Pharping, one of the most important sites in Tibetan Buddhism, including a visit to the caves where Guru Rinpoche attained enlightenment
- time to rest, contemplate, share, learn and to be present in the beauty of Nepal.
It is a journey into the depths of the classical teachings of yoga – this ancient science of life, to help to understand yoga as a frame of mind and attitude. This is a chance to build, share and grow and to find stability within other areas of your life, and to invite happiness to flow through every level of your being.
Away from daily life, give yourself this time to try different tools of yoga, and to discover how they work with your body, mind and soul. Having this chance to focus for a week on yoga and your wellbeing can have a profound impact on your post-retreat state of mind, energy and outlook, helping you to become more present and joyful for all those around you.
