Tibetan Monastery, Pharping

For Tibetan Buddhists, the hills of Pharping where we immerse for our retreat is considered as sacred as Bodhgaya in India, as it is where is where the second buddha Guru Padmasambhava (“Guru Rinpoche”) attained the state of enlightenment, before going on to establish Buddhism in Tibet.

We will stay in the modern and comfortable guest house at the monastery, enjoying the calm of the surroundings and wonderful, plentiful, healthy food. The monastery which is our home during the retreat makes important contributions to the preservation and sharing of the Buddhist teachings, and our stay there helps to fund education for the many young monks from remote areas of Nepal. The lovely guest accommodation has spacious and bright rooms, comfortable beds for deep and refreshing sleeps, all with attached bathrooms, and built in Tibetan style. The stunning yoga hall overlooks the rice paddies of the Kathmandu Valley, ringed by the Himalayas, which the sun rises over during morning practice. It is the perfect place to relax, restore and revive. See more events in this venue

Nicky Zammit

Nicky first found yoga many years ago in a Cairo, and has since never ceased to be amazed at all the positivity that it continues to bring into her life. Yoga for Nicky is a huge leap into a journey of discovery, the biggest adventure of all, through its tools to enable us to truly use and feel the body, breath, sound and mind. Yoga is an opportunity to experience ourselves fully and to develop ourselves to become more peaceful, happy and balanced. For Nicky yoga is strength and gentleness, excitement and peace. She absolutely loves sharing this passion and looks forward to meeting all practitioners on all levels of their yogic journeys.

Nicky has been traditionally trained at the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta organisation in Madurai, India and the Sivananda Yoga Vidya Peetham organisation, where she was honoured to be initiated into the Sivananda lineage of teachers. She has been through the teacher training, advanced teacher training and Sadhana Intensive, (intense spiritual practice.) She also trained with the Arsha Yoga Gurukulum into the practice of comprehensive yoga therapy, enabling her to evaluate and work with each individual, to work to a practice that is best for them. She has also studied the foundations of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka.

Her passion for yoga on every level shines through her teaching and it is her wish to help and encourage others to become a more wholesome, happier and peaceful being. Nicky is one of the most sought-after and best-loved teachers in Kathmandu, and offers this retreat as part of her farewell after three years in Nepal before life takes her in a new direction in June.
