The campout is designed to be a unique gathering focused on community building where the tribe can drop in a bit deeper with each other, form lasting connections, and celebrate life together in a safe “transformational” container. We believe in the power of integrating the wisdom of traditional tribal culture with the emerging modern visionary culture. The campout is our humble attempt at integrating the power of praying, dancing, and learning into an experience that offers a tangible glimpse into a new way of relating to each other, to ourselves, and to the entire breathing world of which we are part. We look forward to kinnecting with you and the gifts you bring, as we get in touch with our roots and explore together what it means to be a tribe in 2014, complete with electronic bass music, permaculture classes, and sacred fires surrounded by medicine songs.
Earth, water, fire, air. These fundamental elements have been recognized and honored throughout human history. These are the major elemental forces and energies that shape the face of the planet and all life upon it. Yet despite this fact, much of the “civilized” world has lost touch with these forces over time as we have separated ourselves from the natural world with philosophical and technological barriers. Everyday we breath our atmosphere’s air, we use water from the tap, we drive our cars around with fire, and we eat food that was grown in soil somewhere. As a small symbolic step towards rekinnecting with these natural forces upon which all life depends, we have chosen the timeless Elemental theme for the four major spaces of our gathering.
Everything we have and experience is provided in some way or another by our earth, the ever-giving womb that birthed us and continues to cradle us and support our every step. No matter how much we continue to take, she keeps providing to her fullest ability. We invite you to stomp your feet in Gaia’s grass and give thanks for Pachamama’s eternal generosity all night long at our main stage.
Water Stage: We are just beginning to understand the extent of water’s magical properties. Water holds intention, cleanses electromagnetic fields, and transmits energy in ways beyond what our current science can explain. So come bless yourself with beats and a rejuvenating dip in the waterfall at our daytime chillout stage.
Sacred Fire: The whole game changed when humankind discovered how to create fire and harness its energy. Ever since then, the fire has been a central focus of culture and community and for good reason. Fire warms our homes, cooks our food, forges our tools, and powers our engines. Many cultures see fire as a living being that carries intentions from the physical world into the spirit realm to be manifested. Throughout the gathering, our firekeepers will be holding sacred fire space for those who are looking for a quiet place to ground, pray, and sing medicine songs. This will be the ceremonial center of the gathering.
Temple (Air): Breath is the key to life. Many of the mystery schools and spiritual practices throughout history have emphasized the importance of cultivating breath awareness and practicing breathing techniques. Come to our temple space to rekinnect with your breath through yoga and meditation classes during the day and receive healing from our collective of body workers and energy healers offering their services for your holistic well-being.
One of the reasons we come to these types of gatherings is for the deep communal experience and to establish lasting relationships with like-hearted people. These gatherings, in essence, are temporary autonomous villages that we create and live in together for a short period of time. The strength and health of the village largely depends on the individuals who show up, what they bring, and what they take in the process. So these gatherings are distinct experiments in community living and village building, teaching us all sorts of lessons and giving us a taste of what is possible in community.
There is a strong pattern emerging from transformational festival culture, and perhaps music festival culture as a whole, where the attendees have profound, life-changing experiences in these temporary villages and leave looking for more. As a result, many people have made it their lifestyle to travel to as many of these gatherings as possible to the extent that we are witnessing an expanding international community of people who dedicate their lives to creating these temporary magical villages in one way or another. At the same time, the conversation seems to be shifting towards “Can we be doing this better?”
The next step, which everyone seems to be realizing simultaneously, is that it is time we figure out a way to start building permanent villages and sustainable communities. There is no reason we need to continue living in dual realities where we escape the “real world” periodically to experience fully present communal celebration of life only to once again return to our normal lives. What many of us were raised to believe is the “real world” is a very limited version of how expansive and wonderful life can be, and we are waking up this fact very quickly. These gatherings offer us a glimpse of how truly magical life can be, and so we believe the next evolution is for these events to start focusing their intentions on planting seeds of permanence. There is an amazing amount of resources that goes into these gatherings from everyone involved including the organizers, the artists, and the participants. The time has come to rethink how all this energy is used, whether it be in the form of time, money, labor, or mere excitement. If we start catching and storing this energy in the form of permanent infrastructure, practical skills, long-lasting networks, and land trust funds, then we will all be one step closer, both collectively and individually, to living the life we envision. These gatherings are much more than parties, they are training grounds for new earth jedi. It all depends on your intention. If you are wanting a party, the chances are good you will find a great party. Additionally, if you are looking for the next step to realizing a fully free and fulfilling life, you may find just that.
