ABOUT THE RETREAT
During the week that we will spend together in the beautiful Tara National Park, we will share two yoga classes and at least one guided meditation session per day. On top of that, every day we will explore local mountain paths, we’ll hike to breathtaking viewpoints, swim in crystal clear mountain lakes, and cruise along the second deepest river canyon of Europe – Drina Canyon.
The level of yoga classes is suitable both for experienced practitioners and for beginners - the former will develop the practice further, while the latter will have the opportunity to learn the basics and have a kick-start on their yogic journey.
Our mornings will start with a guided meditation practice and a yoga class, followed by a delicious freshly prepared brunch. Once our limbs are nicely stretched, our minds calm, and our bellies full, we’ll venture for our daily excursion to discover and enjoy the wanders of Tara Mountain – lush rolling hills, stunning view points, waterfalls, fresh water springs, swimming in lakes, cruising down river canyons, visiting local villages, and much more.
Once we return to our accommodation, you will have some free time for yourselves, followed by a gentle evening yoga and pranayama (yogic breathing techniques) class and dinner. Other than exploring all the aspects of yoga practice, and this wondrous mountain, we will also explore our artistic side through art workshops.
The week will be full of different exciting activities, which are all optional. If at any moment you feel that what you need is just to sit back, relax and enjoy the nature and the absolute peace around you, you are welcome to do so.
FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION
We will stay in a family run guesthouse, at 1000 m height at the very entrance into the area of the National Park, making it a perfect starting point for exploring the Tara Mountain and its surrounding. Every day we will have two meals together – a brunch and dinner. As we will be out for a walk every day during lunch time, everybody can bring some fruit or snacks for themselves, or depending on the itinerary we can have lunch in one of the very few local restaurants.
We promote a vegetarian diet while on the retreat, however we also advocate the ''to each his own'' principle, so meat options could be available.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
The closest airport to Tara Mountain is International Airport in Belgrade, which is around 200 km away. If you wish, we can organize airport transfer for you at an additional cost. Alternatively, you can come to the town of Bajina Basta, which is around 30km away, in your own arrangement, and we will pick you up from there.

Marija began her Yoga practice while attending University, and was inspired to continue and deepen her learning journey. She studied yoga and meditation from gifted teachers form Serbia, Turkey, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and the USA. She completed her teacher training with the Indian Association for Yoga and Meditation in Rishikesh, India, after which she started giving yoga classes in India and Nepal. Apart from regular daily classes, Marija has lead several retreats and numerous workshops across Europe.
Hatha Yoga is Marija’s area of focus with an alignment-based teaching style. From her own experience as a practitioner, she came to realize that without proper alignment and without proper understanding of functional anatomy and movement processes, one can access only a small portion of the endless benefits available in the yoga asana practice. Marija is a self-proclaimed “anatomy geek” and emphasizes the importance of understanding the reasoning behind the specifics of the postures. She appreciates the art and skill of adjusting students and loves using props.
Apart from teaching yoga postures, Marija consistently incorporates meditation into her classes, whether as a separate practice at the end of the class, or by guiding students to approach their asanas with a meditative state of mind while being mindful of the breath. She endeavors to assist every practitioner in understanding that the key difference between bending forward to tie your shoe laces and doing Uttanasana is found in the meditative, breath-focused mind.
“My moto in class (and in life) is play with it: play with your stretch, play with your muscles, your balance, your mind, your ego. Just play with it and see where it takes you”. –M.D. See more photos and other events by this presenter
