Mana is NZ’s most reputed and beautiful yoga retreat centres; it’s a sanctuary in every sense, nestled in the bush covered hills of the Coromandel. Covered in native bush with views out to the islands, Mana has a very unique magic. The four days of the long weekend will be a complete retreat for you, an opportunity for deeper practice, contemplation and connection with the most beautiful New Zealand has to offer.
Our intention for the retreat is to create the space for you to pause. Pause in the rushing round that most of us are in the habit of doing. To create the space for you to move a little deeper into your practice; moving your body, exploring your breath, cultivating mindfulness of how you interact with yourself and and with your environment. The setting of Mana with its space and energy is the perfect setting for such an exploration.
The retreat will encompass three classes a day, a mixture of yoga asana, meditation and philosophy. Massages will also be available for those that would like. Retreat participants will be encouraged to be mindful throughout the weekend to immerse deeply in their practice, and have some quality time-out for themselves.
Yoga classes will be held in the Octagon, a large room that overlooks the west coast islands of the Coromandel. The Octagon is heated by a large wood burning stove, creating a very cosy, introspective atmosphere. The yoga classes will explore a variety of themes such as how breath helps to create stability and movement, and also how we can use the postures to explore our attention capabilities. This will tie in nicely to the meditation sessions that will be held early morning and later on each evening.
Both the yoga posture classes and the meditation classes will be suitable for all levels. Susan and Vincent who are leading the retreat will ensure everyone is taken care of and has a fulfilling and meaningful retreat.
Join us at Mana, New Zealand's most reputed and beautiful retreat centre. Asana, meditation, time and space, with two of NZ's most experienced teachers.
Since then Susan has done training in various traditions including Iyengar yoga in Pune, training with John Friend of Anusara yoga, Donna Farhi workshops and for the last 3 years a teacher training with Gary Kraftsow of the Viniyoga, yoga therapy tradition. Since 2007 Susan has been training under Vincent Bolletta in Auckland, NZ’s most insightful asana teacher. Vincent has constantly encouraged refinement and investigation in her practice and Susan is incredibly grateful for his mentorship. Susan’s meditation practice has led her several times to Osho’s wild meditation center in India as well as several Vipassana retreats in India and NZ.
In 2012 after experiencing a major shift in her health attending the Buteyko breathing therapy course in Auckland, she subsequently trained to become a practitioner. Buteyko is a sophisticated breath re-training technique that added depth and understanding to what she had previously learnt through the pranayama yogic practices.
Her practice and her classes are a combination of these influences. So much of our life we rush about unconsciously, busy and only living on the surface. Susan believes yoga is an opportunity for adventure! Not just adventure of moving to Wanaka to live (nice!) but an exploration of how we can become more connected with the joy and depth of living. Discovering that what lies below the surface of busy-ness can sustain us and bring peace of mind.
Susan currently runs and teaches at two studios called Yoga Ground in Auckland and Wanaka, New Zealand See more photos and other events by this presenter
