Rocket Training 50 hour (part 1)
50 Hours of Rocket Training for practitioners and instructors looking to develop and explore their skills of practice and teaching the world famous Rocket Routines. We will be looking at different keys to unlock our hidden potential, this training will surely “get you there faster!”.
The Purpose of this training is to invite students into the mechanical brainwork of the Rocket Series. Appropriately dubbed the “feel-good” routine, the sequence and philosophy are well thought out, and proven to be effective over years of experience practicing in this system. These ground-breaking routines approach the Ashtanga Vinyasa system in an open, progressive, fun and challenging way.
The Rocket Routines are shared in detail with the focus on exploring the mechanics of “flying” through your practice and moving with grace and ease through life’s many experiences. A Rocket practice video and Training Manual come as part of the curriculum. The Rocket Trainings consist mostly of students from our 200-hour Teacher Training Program although we are open to having participants from other Yoga Alliance, 200hr Registered Programs. These trainings are a great opportunity to put in some hours of practice without distraction and open up to new routines, new ideas and a new way of sequencing your days.
The Rocket Training is delivered in two separate 5 day format (50 hours each). You can choose to participate in both or just one of them. This is part 1.
What is the Rocket?
Larry Schultz, who created the world-famous Rocket Series, was looking for a way to make the practice of Ashtanga accessible to a Western practitioner. Unlike much of the Vinyasa Flow and Power Yoga offered in the Yoga world, Larry’s system was informed by over nine years of dedicated Ashtanga practice with his teacher, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Yoga. The routines are intelligently structured to open the body in a natural way and work through the joints systematically. While the series take on a new form, they retain the same core principles of Ashtanga- breath, bandhas and drishti. Inside of the Rocket routines, you will find a template, a core sequence, that always exists.
- The Rocket I reorders, but closely follows, the traditional Primary Series of Ashtanga.
- The Rocket II follows the Second Series of the Ashtanga.
- Rocket III brings the I and II together for an invigorating 90 poses in 90 minutes
Traditionally in Ashtanga, you progress in a linear fashion, receiving poses as your teacher allows them. The Rocket takes away the hierarchy of this system and empowers practitioners of all levels with access to postures found in the more advanced Ashtanga series. This innovation earned Larry the reputation as the “Bad Man of Ashtanga,” a fact he loved to share with the thousands of people who fell in love with the Rocket, and Ashtanga, through his teaching.
