Join us as we adventure into the colourful ancient land of South India, with its sacred temples, yoga centres, authentic villages, flavourful cuisine, spiritual pilgrims, and festivals of light.
Let your senses be enraptured by the vibrant spice markets, the intricate rock carvings and the vast shimmering ocean, while your mind is calmed by daily yoga practices, quiet meditation in the world’s most sacred shrines, and time to connect to your inner light.
If you have always dreamed of visiting India, this is your opportunity! Guided by Michele Labelle, yoga teacher and breath facilitator, and expert local guide Charles, you will experience the best of India in a safe environment with like-minded travellers who are sure to become good friends, while making memories that will last a lifetime. All levels are welcome!
We begin our adventure in Mamallapuram where we can learn about the exquisite rock carvings that adorn this historic town. We will also meet with special guests such as Vedic Astrologers and Hindu Priests to deepen our learning and exploration of ourselves and this sacred land.
Our taste buds will delight at a hands-on cooking class with Chindi Varadarajulu, owner of L’Attitude 49restaurant, and at a gathering for a Traditional Tamil meal on banana leaves.
We will spend 3 days inTiruvannamalai where Sri Ramana Maharshi lived and meditated for 54 years. Here, we will visit Arulmigu Arunachaleswara Temple, thought to be the largest temple in the world dedicated to Shiva. We will also explore the caves on the slopes of Arunachala Holy Mountain where Ramana meditated for 23 years, and visit the Ramana Ashram where we will witness a Veda parayanam – a devoted study of the Veda.
Here, we will also experience the most beautiful festival in South India known as Karthigai Deepam, a festival of lights. As the streets and buildings glow red and gold, ghee is lit on the summit of mount Arunachala, a powerful beacon of light visible from afar. Thousands upon thousands of pilgrims come to Tiruvannamalai during Kaarthigai Deepam to walk around the Holy Mountain, stopping at devotional shrines along the way.
In Madurai, we will spend time at the Meenakshi Amman Temple and the Thirumalai Nayak Palace, the latter an example of architectural grandeur built by King Thirumalai Nayak in 1636 AD, and enjoy a fun cycle rickshaw ride to explore this colourful and spectacular city.
After our sightseeing and spiritual immersion, we will spend 3 nights and 2 blissful days at the Isha Yoga Center, where we can participate in our choice of yoga classes, meditation, and energy work. We then take an unforgettable train ride to Alleppey and spend 3 days enjoying the sights and sounds of Marari and Allepey, from the local fishermen casting their giant nets by hand, to the peaceful solace of a starlit beach yoga practice, and a tranquil backwater boat cruise.
We then travel to Cochin for our final full day together, where we indulge in a sightseeing tour of the ancient town of Fort Kochi, before gathering to watch Kerala’s famous dance-drama, the Kathakali, followed by our Farewell Dinner.
This sacred journey reveals the natural rhythms of Indian life and propels you towards finding your own inner sense of balance, joy, and profound well-being. We will connect our outward experiences and visits with our own inner work to fully appreciate the history, culture and spirituality of Southern India. We hope you will join us.

As part of her own inner journey of exploration, Michele became a student of her guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship, which led to her yearning to experience India, his Motherland. In 2001 she was drawn to India and attended the Maha Kumbh Mela. Since then she has facilitated two Yoga Journeys to India for Sacred Earth Journeys, from the Himalayas and Golden Triangle of the north, to the many temples and beaches of the south. The sights, history, colours and adventures of India are like nowhere else and Michele loves to share her passion for India with her fellow travelers. She has also lead local retreats in British Columbia as well to exotic Tahiti in 2011 and magical Bali in 2012 for Sacred Earth Journeys.
Prior to teaching yoga Michele spent 16 years in Respiratory Therapy, which has given her a unique view of the role the breath plays in our daily lives.
Michele's passion is to share yoga in a way that will empower and connect you to your breath, mind and body; to become more aware of the messages that surround you; and to stop and listen especially when in a new environment. Michele caters to all levels, beginners welcome!
