Yoga by Nature is heading to Pedrogao Grande, Central Portugal for a week in the sun at the idyllic Gravito. Outdoor yoga, meditation, singing and music, sweat lodge and river swimming at a visionary, eco-friendly retreat centre in the lush mountains.
We will meet in Lisbon on Friday the 11th September (see below for alternative options arriving on the 12th), and enjoy the food and culture of this lovely city. Guests will arrive throughout the day and we'll convene in the evening for a group meal out. On Saturday morning we'll travel together by private bus to the countryside just outside Pedragao Grande for a week in the mountains doing yoga, resting and enjoying local walks.
Gravito is a magical place, where you will be hosted by Miguel and Shobha the owners who have created this site of natural harmony through their own vision and endeavour. Accommodation will be in teepees (four people sharing) and we will practice yoga in the large yurt which sits at the bottom of the hill, next to the river, and also on the yoga platform under the shade of the oak trees. Miguel will lead us in a sweat lodge, where we will make the lodge ourselves and take part in the process which should last an afternoon and an evening.
The yoga will be taught by Morven, who teaches in the Akhanda yoga style. All abilities are welcome - you will be supported and challenged in your practice whether you are relatively new to yoga or whether you are a seasoned practitioner. Our morning practice will be meditation for early risers, followed by a two-hour Akhanda yoga practice designed to both nurture and challenge you whatever your ability or experience may be. The evening practice will be a gentle practice - we'll explore mindfulness techniques, restorative yoga and yoga nidra, and there'll be some time allocated to discussion either during the afternoon or in evening session time.
Miranda Bungey will be coming to lead us in some optional singing circles during the evenings, and we will also have nightly jams with Tamsin Marshall, Andy Smart, Morven and anyone else who wants to bring an instrument and join in. There are lots of drums to play at Gravito and there'll be the opportunity to have music circles around the fire pit.
Treatments on offer are Reflexology and Thai Yoga massage.
Retreat can be a time to improve and recommit to asana (posture) practice, but it's also an inner process where we have the opportunity to adjust our perspective and re-centre ourselves. As always, there will be some exploration of aspects of yoga philosophy and its application in our daily lives, with plenty of opportunity to discuss what that means for us as individuals.
Easyjet and Ryanair, and several other European airlines fly to Lisbon at reasonable prices, and our journey to and from Gravito will be included in the cost of the retreat.
The price includes hostel accommodation at Old Town Hostel in Lisbon on Friday 11th Sept, transport to and from Gravito from Lisbon, twice-daily yoga, morning meditation, sweat lodge, seven nights teepee accommodation, evening events and all meals.

Yoga by Nature Retreats
Retreats take place in the South West of England and in Spain, Portugal, Morocco and France. We choose our locations by their natural beauty, their potential as a place for contemplation and their eco-friendly status.
Our team changes a little from time to time, but Morven Hamilton, as director of Yoga by Nature, is the organiser, host and yoga teacher on each of the retreats. We continue to form new collaborations and we have recently worked with Ali Gunning, Tim Chalice and cooks Nemia Brooks and Felicia Greene. The YBN team members share a love of Yoga, Nature and a commitment to offering their best skills in order to make your experience with us one that is healthful and nourishing.
We hope to inspire you by sharing the broader context of yoga, and we create each retreat a little differently as our own connections and experience shifts our perspective. Expect Hatha yoga, chanting, music, kirtan, gongs, walks, specialised workshops, silence, laughter and happy tummies. See more photos and other events by this presenter
