This surf and yoga retreat is not about filling you up with new ideas, it’s about making a space for you to be still, to tune into your own Guidance, to relax and be yourself, to discover what matters to you. Then You and the other participants fill in the space, that’s how the magic happens.
The Self Reflection and Writing Workbook
On the Bali Yoga and Surf Retreats Rick uses the technique of self-reflection and writing The Purpose~Presence~Dreams Workbook.
The heart and soul of these retreats is The Purpose~Presence~Dreams Workbook: a series of writing exercises, discussions and meditations. It is inspired by Ricks experience with surviving cancer, and refined over 21 SURF LIFE Retreats he conducted in Bali and Australia. It helps discover your true life purpose, clarify what really matters to you, be present here and now, and check off more dreams.
The group spends an hour every day at the table overlooking the ocean… We light some incense, put on some good chilled out music, and ask some simple but powerful questions. You breathe and feel and relax, with pen in hand. During that time you are able to LISTEN to your deepest self. And then you write. Perhaps it’s things you’ve known all along, perhaps you discover desires and inspirations for the first time.
Taking in the Natural Beauty of the Island and the Ocean
On this Surf and Yoga retreat we are surrounded by natural beauty of the island and the ocean. This retreat has a free flowing schedule, an easy balance of structure and flow. The program is based around the surf and yoga lessons. Surf lesson is tide dependent, as each day the ocean has its own schedule of tides. We make sure to watch the beautiful sunsets every night. They are so different each time, like watching a canvas of the sky painted by a mysterious painter.
The other technique is so called fully engaging in Life NOW (through surfing, yoga and spontaneous adventures). The result is a new experience of being ALIVE.
The surf and yoga retreat is an experience of full time BEING: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Rick says he loves seeing how people change during this week of yoga and surf: bodies fit, faces tan, eyes get more vibrant, smiles grow and grow.
Daily Yoga Practice
Every day there is a 90 minute yoga session, usually first thing in the morning or just after sunset. Yoga is practiced on the big tiled space under cover of a roof, or on the grass under open sky — really nice at night to look up at the stars and moon. The view out front is ocean.
The yoga class is suitable for all levels; the poses can be modified to be more easy or more difficult. Each session is tailored to the group dynamics, if it is a very active group sometimes we will want a relaxing/rejuvenating yoga session. And sometimes the group will enjoy a more challenging session. We also focus on strengthening and stretching in a way that brings our body into balance after surfing. Stretching the shoulders, hips and back, and strengthening the front core muscles to even out the back work-out that surfing gives. Our daily stretching, breathing, strengthening, and aligning helps heal quickly from surf sessions, and helps us going into deep sleep at night.
The Surf and Yoga retreats are available every month on Bali. Contact us to find out about more available dates.

He was diagnosed with leukemia at 21 years old; it was one of the best things that ever happened to him. In 2010 he ran the first SURF LIFE Retreat in Australia– a yoga & surf retreat for young adult cancer survivors, to help them be empowered by their cancer experience and to live lives of purpose, presence and dreams. He ran five of those retreats between 2010 – 2012. In 2012 the Flow of Life moved him to Bali and his dream of working for himself and doing what he loves became a reality when he first rant the first Bali Yoga Surf Retreat open to the general public. He has run 17 Bali Retreats until now.
I was raised in San Diego, CA by parents who get more and more amazing every year! I have traveled the world surfing. I speak Spanish and Indonesian. I lived in Australia for 8 years before moving to Bali in 2012. I am the father of two beautiful, powerful, next-level kids (4 and 9 years old) who were born at home in Australia. I love surfing and yoga I appreciate this adventure of being alive. Yoga Teachers
Rick works with a number of amazing yoga teachers, and each has their own style. Bali is a magnet for committed yoga teachers, they are drawn here to teach and to learn from each other. Here are some of the teachers who have come and shared their skills and wisdom at my Bali Yoga Surf Retreats. Most of our teachers have experience in Acroyoga – a blend of yoga, acrobatics and healing arts. Acroyoga is a good way to keep yoga light and fun.
