Pranayama is control of Breath. "Prana" is Breath or vital energy in the body. On subtle levels prana represents the pranic energy responsible for life or life force, and "ayama" means control. One can control the rhythms of pranic energy with pranayama and achieve healthy body and mind.
Our breathing is influenced by our thoughts, and our thoughts and physiology can be influenced by our breath. Learning to breathe consciously and with awareness can be a valuable tool in helping to restore balance in the mind and body.
Researchers have documented the benefits of a regular practice of simple, deep breathing, which include:
Reduced anxiety and depression
Lower/stabilized blood pressure
Increased energy levels
Decreased feelings of stress and overwhelm

Lumeria is located Upcountry from Maui’s north shore, a short drive from Maui’s Kahului airport, and minutes from the beach, between the historic plantation towns of Pa’ia and Makawao. The former, a rustic seaside town, is an off-the-beaten-path favorite among locals, artists, and savvy travelers seeking an authentic Mauian village excursion. In neighboring Makawao, you will walk the edge of history among veritable Hawaiian cowboys (Paniolos) and trade your tired shrimp cocktail in the plastic terracotta environs of Maui’s resort towns for a fresh steak, elk burger, or barbequed Kalua pork at a local ranch outpost.
Designed by Honolulu architect H.R. Kerr in 1910, Lumeria holds a special heritage. As the oldest wooden structure on Maui, its first incarnation was as the original Fred C. Baldwin Memorial Home, erected by its namesake’s sugar cane family. Initially designed to house aging plantation laborers who dedicated much of their lives to cultivating the cane fields, the property and buildings have been used for a range of purposes since the early 1900s, including World War II military housing, and as a dormitory for the nearby Maunaolu Women’s College in the 1960s and 1970s. By honoring the site’s past while implementing innovative, aspirational design, Lumeria Maui was born as a uniquely beautiful destination on the Hawaiian islands.

There are a wide range of options for flights to Maui, including direct flights from many west coast cities, and connecting flights via Los Angeles or Honolulu. Costs per ticket from San Francisco typically run $350 to $650,depending on specials and availability. Flights from LA are about $50 less, and from other western cities, $50 more. When flying to Maui select the Kahalui airport (airport code OGG). You can also fly into Honolulu, then take a short flight to Maui. Traveling with kids can be challenging, so getting a daytime, direct flight is quite desirable.
We do not provide transportation to and from the airport. TAXairport to Lumeria are approximately $35.00. Also, we highly recommend renting a car if you want to explore more of all that Maui has to offer. Taxis charge a $25.00 surcharge in addition to meter fees to do pickups at Lumeria.
