Samasati’s beautiful Yoga rooms are screened hexagonal buildings surrounded by the primal rainforest. You might even spot a toucan in your morning class, or a group of howler monkeys in your afternoon class.
Our Spa Menu is special! We bring in local organic products for our treatments, which vary from refreshing Rainforest Scrubs to Chakra and energy balancing work.
Our cuisine is beyond a normal vegetarian menu. Our meals are up-scale choices of the best organic products. We also serve organic chicken and fish upon request.
The Caribbean is a special place within Costa Rica to experience nature, beaches and tours. We have picked the most special activities for your stay, however, if you choose more time for tours, you can work this into the retreat schedule.
Stephanie McKenzie, your yoga teacher and host is a world traveled, southern USA born yogini. She has hiked the Darien Gap, been chased down a mountain by proboscis monkeys, slept in the home of cannibals, she earned her living twice by performing as a gingerbread cookie, she bottled raised Siberian tigers and shared an orange with a maquac.
From a young age, yoga and meditation found their way into Stephanie’s life. First exposed to meditation by her older sister, Stephanie found her inner resource where she delved into the peace and safety of herself. First the practice of asana was required conditioning for her professional dance career, then it became her refuge. She longed to linger in the postures. The lengthening and strengthening of her body brought an insightful peace that gave Stephanie a sense of solitude that amplified her awareness of connection.
Stephanie’s eclectic life has been met with an equally eclectic study of yoga traditions and practices. As her life and body changed, so did her practice. She has immersed herself in the study and practice of ashtanga, vinyasa, yin yang, therapeutics, restorative, and alignment focused yoga traditions. She has found inspiration in the teachings of modern yogis such as Gabriel Halpern, Cora Wen, Tamal Dodge, Larry Hobbs, David Keil, Desiree Rumbaugh, Pualie Zink, Racheal Crawford and many others as she seeks to understand the various paths of the yogic traditions.
Stephanie’s intuitive teaching weaves together philosophy, mythology, yogic-living and inspiration. She draws from her deep understanding of yogic traditions, therapeutics, biomechanics and sequencing to bring students into a intimate, honest conversation with their selves. She honors each students practice and compassionately guides them to reach beyond their pre-conceived ideas of their own potential and untie the bonds on their perceived limitations. Stephanie will help you hear your hearts desire and to clearly define your life path.
