Venue Description

About the area:

The large peninsula of the Peloponnese (or Peloponnesus) occupies the most southern part of mainland Greece, meeting the Ionian Sea in the west and the Aegean Sea in the east. The peninsula has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Its modern name derives from ancient Greek mythology, from the legend of the hero Pelops who was said to have conquered the entire region. The name Peloponnese means “island of Pelops”.

It is one of the most beautiful, naturally diverse and certainly the most historic country-side of Europe. Since antiquity it was the “Apple of Discord” for all conquerors who have passed through Greece. It was here from where the Olympic Games originated, here where ancient drama and theatre flourished, here where the Spartans stopped the Persian war expedition towards Europe and here where the Greek revolution for freedom against the 400-year Turkish occupancy started from.

The Peloponnese is a whole world in one piece of land. Such a diverse, rich and friendly land can be found nowhere else on earth. Travellers who have already been here, know. So don’t take our word for it, better find one such traveller and ask him. The answer will be first a glimmer in the eyes and then a confident answer: “Yes, you should go and visit Peloponnese, it will touch your soul…”
