Antonée Lua, Certified Hatha Yoga Instructor Bio
Dancing Yogini is directed by Antonée Lua, a native of Los Angeles, who began her formal dance training at the age of three studying ballet with the renowned Olga Fricker for six years. Eventually she added tap, hip-hop, freestyle as well as traditional African dance and dances of the African diaspora to the mix. It was love of movement that led Lua to her first yoga class in 1994 (someone said it was like dancing!) and the euphoria that comes from an awesome asana (yoga postures) and meditation practice. Her love for “moving meditation” led her to study with various yoga schools and teachers. After years of a rather eclectic practice, she has for the last several years focused on the flowing energy of Vinyasa yoga, the alignment of Iyengar, and the restorative and quieting practice of Yin Yoga. Antonée has found an inner calm and physical well-being through the teachings of these schools which are not mutually exclusive but complementary. In order to deepen her understanding of yoga, Lua spent six months studying Eastern Philosophy and Yoga in India and Thailand and received her Teacher Training Certification from Sivananda Kutir in October 2006.
The creation of Dancing Yogini is a means to share knowledge acquired from her wonderful teachers at Kula Yoga Project, Deborah Wolk and Kristen Davis in New York, Swami Nirmalananda of Sivananda Yoga, Swami Govindananda Saraswati of Sivananda Yoga Veedya Peetham, and all of her wonderful yoga and dance teachers throughout the years. The aim is to help students bring consciousness to their body and optimize their breath in order to maintain a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
