Emily Curtis Bio
Emily began practicing yoga in 1997 with her teacher Acharya Upendra Roy in Sydney, Australia. She then began to teach with Acharya at his school in 2002 and continues to be a teacher at this school today. She also has taught with the ‘Byron School of Yoga’, ‘Yoga in Daily Life’, and worked closely with a Chiropractic Center where classes are focused on a more restorative yoga practice.
Emily spent extended periods of time in Japan and India studying yoga and yogic philosophy; she also completed teacher training certificates in Iyengar Yoga and Sivananda Yoga both in India.
During her 11 years of teaching hatha yoga she has had the experience of running various workshop and retreats in Australia as well as taking a group of students to study yoga in the North of India. Most recently, Emily co-published her first book of yoga based on the teachings of Hatha and Raja Yoga of Acharya Upendra Roy.
Her teaching style stays very close to the classical approach to Hatha Yoga, giving emphasis to pranayama, asana, and meditation.
